Montreal Whore
September 2
Head: 6/0 black
Thread: 6/0 black
Wing: Bucktail & white marabou
Hook: Mustad 3665a or 9575
Tag: Same as rib
Rib: Size 14 medium flat silver tinsel, 5 to 6 turns
Start thread near eye, then run to tail, tie in medium silver tinsel, then run thread back. Tie in a piece of 2 strand Hot Burnt Orange yarn (Hunter Orange). Unravel a 4 strand piece to form 2 strands. Tie in 1/2 inch from the eye and wrap the thread over the yarn down to the barb of the hook, take close, firm wraps. Cement the yarn that was wrapped with a thin line of flex cement. Wrap the yarn back up to the tie in spot, close together and under tension so no thread or hook shows through. Take the tinsel and wrap at the butt to make a tag of 2-3 wraps, then wrap to the eye, forming 5 to 6 ribs. Tie off at the tie in spot. Take 5 hairs of each color (red, blue, white) deer tail and tie them in at the tie off spot. ( when using deertail hair, alway use the hairs near the pointed end of the tail. Only use the natural ends of the hair, these are thinner and have more action) The natural tips of this underwing should be no longer than the bend of the hook. Put a dab of flex cement on the thread windings before you add the hairs. Find a white marabou plume that has a thin flimsy stem. This feather is to be no longer than 1/4 of the entire wing length. It is better if you keep it to the hook bend. Fish often hit the wing and it's better to get a fish than a tug. Wrap over the head to form a neat black head, whip finish and you are done. Coat the head with 1 coat of flex-cement, let dry. After 1 hour paint the head with black lacquer, let dry 2 hours. Coat the head with 2 more coats of clear head lacquer, allowing to dry 2-3 hours between coats.
